New York Burglar, Disguised As Amazon Worker, Steals Cash And Jewellery Worth Rs 29 Lakh
The New York Police Department suspects that one individual is behind at least nine break-ins.

The New York Police Department is on the lookout for a serial burglar, who has been on a burglary spree in several neighbourhoods in the Queens area. The police believe the burglar disguises as an Amazon worker to avoid suspicion and gets access to residential buildings. He then breaks into homes and steals cash and other valuables. The suspect has been linked to at least nine apartment break-ins in Astoria, Sunnyside, and Long Island City. He has so far stolen cash, jewellery, and other valuables worth $32,000 (Rs 29 lakh) during these nine robberies.

NYPD released CCTV footage that shows the suspect in an Amazon vest before he enters a house through the front door. One of the robbery victims is 35-year-old Estrla Islas from Sunnyside. The single mother told FOX 5 New York that the burglar broke into her apartment via her bathroom window. He rummaged through her apartment and took “$9,000 in cash" (approximately Rs 7.5 lakh). Islas had saved this amount for her 12-year-old daughter’s future.

The serial burger began his stealing spree in January. The latest incident was reported on March 5 when the suspect broke into a house on Skillman Avenue in Sunnyside through a window. He stole $6,500 (approximately Rs 5.4 lakh) worth of jewellery and about $200 (approximately Rs 16,000) in cash from the house.

This is not the only incident from New York City where robbers are using Amazon delivery workers’ uniforms to commit crimes. On March 2, a group of armed men stormed into a house before rounding up people and taking their money. The incident took place in Newburgh, a suburb located in the north of New York City.

As per NBC New York, the home invasion started when a man, dressed as an Amazon delivery agent knocked on the door. He was carrying a package and told the homeowner that he needed a signature to authenticate the delivery. When the homeowner opened the dorm, the robber shoved his way inside the house. He then pulled out a gun and his three accomplices entered the house. They were wearing masks and had guns.

The armed robbers called out everyone in the house in one place and demanded valuables and money. After getting their loot, the robbers put everyone in the house’s basement. There were no injuries reported during the incident.
