Apart from the monitor, people had to connect several other devices like the CPU and the UPS to make the system work.

The world of technology has witnessed plenty of major advancements over the past few years. There was a time when people were able to access the internet only on their desktops featuring CRT monitors. With time, LCD screens have taken the place of those box-like devices. Now, the invention of laptops and smartphones has entirely changed the shape of the digital world. Thanks to the emergence of these gadgets, people can now access the internet anytime from anywhere. But those who have experience in using desktops and wired internet connectivity, must know the importance of such technology in that era. Such an individual has recently shed light on the topic with a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Sorry for being nostalgia-baited but it was kind of nice where the internet was a single, solitary, unmoving place instead of a terror that extends to everywhere. You went to this specific spot to go to the internet. When you left the spot, you left the internet. It was a place,” the user named Cal50 wrote on the microblogging platform.

The post accompanied a photograph of an old-generation computer that used to be a complex set-up. Apart from the monitor, people had to connect several other devices like the CPU (Central Processing Unit) and the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to make the system work.

As all those components require electricity, people had to sit in front of the computer to access its features. Back then, individuals used to visit cybercafes where they could use computers for their own purposes by paying a small amount of money. These shops were quite popular among the youth, who used to go there often to play online games.

After the post surfaced on the internet, several users hailing from that generation jumped into the comment section, sharing their experience of using desktops. A nostalgic user commented, “At some point, we were logged off for the last time.”

“Not only was it a place, but it was also proper” feels another user.

A man went on to recall that his grandfather had the same setup where he used to play “Flight Simulator nonstop.”

A tech lover sarcastically commented, “Some of us were used to never leaving this place, even in 1999.”

Since being shared on X, the post has accumulated more than 9 million views, with hundreds of people reacting to it.
