Taiwan Earthquake: Spine-Chilling Video Shows High-Rise Tilting As 7.4 Magnitude Quake Hits Island
It is said that this earthquake and series of strong aftershocks were the strongest to shake the island in decades.

In what is being said as “the strongest tremor to hit the island in at least 25 years,” Taiwan was struck by a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake on Wednesday, April 3. Causing multiple buildings to collapse in Hualien, the closest city to the epicentre, the earthquake has reportedly claimed one life, while many are said to have been injured. Further, it had also sparked a tsunami warning for both the southern part of Japan and the Philippines, which was later lifted. While rescue efforts continue to be underway, shocking videos of the earthquake are being widely shared on the internet.

The clips show buildings shaking violently, collapsing into dust, and the aftermath effects of the Taiwan earthquake. One such spine-chilling video has gained traction on the internet and shows a five-storey building on the edge of collapsing to dust. The clip shared on the X handle of Palestine Updates depicts how the first floor of the building was completely damaged, causing the structure to tilt at a 45-degree angle. The location is said to be on Xuanyuan Road in Hualien, the worst-affected region.

While many buildings in Hualien have been damaged due to the earthquake, reports suggest that people are also believed to be trapped under the debris. Local media also shared similar images of partially collapsed buildings that have been knocked off their foundations and left tilted.

Social media users were left completely shocked.

More about Taiwan earthquake

The people of Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan, woke up to a powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake that shook several parts of the island nation. While the strong tremors initially began by knocking out power in several parts of the city, later a tsunami alert was also issued in Japan. Speaking on the same, Wu Chein Fu, the director of Taipei’s Seismology Centre called it the “strongest in 25 years.”

“The earthquake is close to land, and it’s shallow. It’s felt all over Taiwan and the offshore islands. It’s the strongest in 25 years,” he said while speaking to the media.

Further, the Philippines also warned of “high tsunami waves,” calling for the evacuation of coastal areas. While the tsunami alerts have now been withdrawn, the impact of the earthquake can be felt as vehicles were smashed, residents were injured, and buildings collapsed, followed by power cuts and internet outages.
