This Hyderabad Woman's Ramayana Embroidery Was Inspired By Ram Mandir Bhoomi Puja
The Hyderabad-based artist took inspiration from the Ram Temple Bhoomi Puja and decided to embroider the entire Ramayana narrative.

There is no end to talent, irrespective of one’s gender, background, or social status. While building skills and producing work takes a lot of effort, getting exposure takes a lot more. With the advent of the internet, it is now possible for people to showcase their hidden talents to the world. One such inspiring story of a woman from Hyderabad has impressed the internet widely. A female artist named Aparna Kanumuri achieved a unique feat by stitching the entire Ramayana narrative with the art of embroidery.

Aparna, who learned the skills of embroidery from her mother and grandmother, said that it took her a year to complete the art, which she started during the Ayodhya Ram Temple Bhoomi Puja.

In a conversation with news agency ANI, Aparna spoke about her talent and said that she started developing the art during the pandemic lockdown and has also made creations to resemble ancient scriptures written on leaves. Aparna added that she wants to pass on her learning and understanding of the arts and contribute it to the coming generations.

“I have always been very fond of embroidery since my childhood days. I learned all of it from my mother and grandmother and pursued it a lot. Instead of doing embroidery on tablecloths and others, I started doing it on other things. During the pandemic lockdown, when I heard about the Ram Mandir Bhoomi Puja, I thought of creating something to contribute to the next generation, something that can be remembered. This is when I finally decided to do Ramayana,” she said.

Mentioning that she started the Ramayan embroidery at the same time when the Ram Temple Bhoomi Puja was held, Aparna further shared that she began the work with all the material that she had at home and started it at the same moment.

“I used to work in hours a day or sometimes even more. I did a little more than 100 parallels which I could complete in a year,” she added.

Embroidered Ramayana for children

During the conversation, the Hyderabad-based artist also revealed that she made sure to create the artwork to attract the children.

“Ramayana is a big epic. Thus, making it compact, deciding the important steps, and the script; all was a big task. I have made it colourful so that children are also attracted and interested to know about our history,” she continued.
