Tourists Assault Tamil Nadu Security Guard Over Parking Dispute; Three Arrested
The tourists -- two women and two men -- alighted from their vehicle and proceeded to assault Ezhumalai.

A group of tourists attacked a security guard over a parking issue in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu. What began as a verbal disagreement, turned into a physical fight, which was recorded and posted on social media. According to reports, three people have been apprehended in connection with the case. The guard was attacked by two men and two women after he denied them permission to park in a no-parking area.

Ezhumalai was targeted on the job near the Five Rathas, The Hindu reported. The 49-year-old got into an argument with the driver of a vehicle entering the no-parking zone.

After the exchange, the tourists — two women and two men — alighted from their vehicle and proceeded to assault Ezhumalai. A video shows one woman stepping closer and slapping him. Others followed, using their fists and his baton to beat him up. Ezhumalai began screaming for help and some people came to his aid.

According to the Hindu, the guard later reported the matter to the police and three of the tourists were arrested.

R Sivaraman, a journalist, shared the video on X and captioned, “Women tourists beat private security personnel near Five Rathas, Mamallapuram when he asked them not to take their car to no parking area. Hope Mamallapuram police will act on seeing this.” He also tagged the official X pages of Tamil Nadu Police and Chengalpattu District Police.

At first, Ezhumalai did not want to file charges, but when the witnesses posted the video online, he changed his mind. This led local authorities to act promptly. As per The Times Of India, on October 22, police arrested three individuals involved in the attack: Prabhu Inba Das (41) wife keerthana (29) and Shanmugapriya (38). The fourth suspect Krishnamoorthy (42) is on the run.

The event has angered people across the social media platforms. An X user wrote, “They should be behind bars! Whatever be the issue they have absolutely no right to manhandle the security guy!”

Another user added, “Arrogant behaviour. And assault. @tnpoliceoffl (sic) don’t take this lightly and arrest the women. Law is gender no bar. She can’t beat him up because he informed them that the parking is private. This is elitist outrage and bad behaviour. @CMOTamilnadu (sic) take proper action.”
