Tata Sons Chairman emeritus, Ratan Tata, breathed his last at 11:30 PM on October 9 at Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai. His body, draped in the Indian national flag, is placed on the lawns of the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) at Nariman Point, allowing the public to pay their last respects until 4 PM. Following this, his mortal remains will be taken for the final rites at the Prayer Hall of the Worli Crematorium. At his prayer meeting at NCPA, priests from Parsi, Muslim, Christian, Sikh and Hindu faiths gathered to read prayers. Videos of this poignant gathering have been circulating on the Internet, with many calling the industrialist ‘true icon of India’.

“RIP Ratan Tata ji,” reads the caption to the video shared on Instagram. It shows priests of all religions standing shoulder to shoulder and reading prayers at NCPA laws as public pay their last respects to the mortal remains of the industrialist.

During this time of grief, we request privacy as we come together to honour his memory,” read a statement by Tata Sons.
