Truecaller Product Director's Mother Calls India Her Ideal Holiday Destination
Truecaller executive shared that India is often shown as a land of overcrowded trains, but their journey on Vande Bharat Express shattered those stereotypes.

Szymon Kopec, a senior executive at Truecaller from Poland, recently visited India with his mother, and revealed that the journey changed her perspective. Kopec, a product director of the caller ID app, shared that India is often shown as a land of slums and overcrowded trains, but their journey on the Vande Bharat Express Train shattered those stereotypes. He expressed how the Indian tech ecosystem amazed his mother and she was also stunned after he showed her countless apps for every need. Despite language barriers, Kopec and his mother enjoyed small interactions with the locals and never came across any bad experience during their time. While Kopec has lived in India for 4 years, it was his mother’s first visit and she fell in love with the country. Now, she promotes India as her ideal holiday destination to their family members.

Sharing her mother’s experience on X, he wrote, “She’s heard a lot about the country from me, read in Polish media, yet everything around here was shocking. The mundanests of things were an attraction, especially taxi rides and grocery shopping. She came with a mission to buy ‘curry spice’ for my sister and couldn’t believe there’s more than one type. She took approximately a billion photos of weeds and plants in the most random places and was at awe with the vegetation, with what in Europe are indoor plants requiring tonnes of maintenance.”

“Unfortunately image of India in Poland is mostly portraying slums and overcrowded trains with people hanging on rooftops. Taking a perfectly on-time Vande Bharat debunked some stereotypes. The same goes for Delhi and its green, beautifully maintained neighbourhoods. Tech ecosystem blew her mind. In Poland we’re so far behind in that regard, while here I’ve shown her that there’s an app for literally anything she imagines + 6 alternatives from competitors,” Szymon Kopec added.

Kopec further elaborated about the gaps in their knowledge about India’s history in school and highlighted how visiting iconic landmarks like the Taj Mahal and forts in Jaipur provided an eye opening glimpse into the country’s rich pre colonial history. Despite language barriers, his mother loved the kindness of locals, as interactions left a lasting impact. Now after returning home, Kopec shared that his mother hasn’t stopped promoting India as an ideal holiday destination.

In response to Szymon Kopec’s post, Truecaller co-founder Nami Zarringhalam shared his own positive experience when he came to India with his mother in February. Zarringhalam expressed that it was also his mother’s first visit and like Kopec’s mother, she had a wonderful experience and wanted to explore more. During their time, they visited cities like, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi and Agra. Interestingly, his mother found it surprising to discover numerous similarities between Iran and India.
