The news of a man facing significant losses after purchasing defective cars through Facebook Marketplace is in the headlines. He has shared his tale about his troubling experience. The man named Usman Malik, 45, is a pharmacist by profession and a resident of Greater Manchester UK. He has bought a total number of 7 cars spending a lump sum amount of Rs 19 lakh, through Facebook Marketplace over the past nine months. He has faced repeated fraud and misfortunes with these purchases. The troubling part arose when he found issues or faults in each of these cars which led to their resale. Now, he has issued a warning to others advising against buying from Facebook Marketplace. According to sources, his problems began with the purchase of a mini car that had duplicated licence plates, which led to legal and practical issues. Another car, a Honda, broke down on the motorway within a few hours of purchase, and yet another lasted barely a week.
The father of two is now advising second-hand car buyers to stay away from Facebook Marketplace, which he likens to the Wild West. In an interview, he claimed that he did not believe most people owned seven cars in their lifetime, let alone in just a few months. He admitted that he had been scammed online and felt that he had been foolish, but he also acknowledged experiencing some bad luck during this period.
His warning stems from his belief that the platform’s unpredictability and the risks that are associated with buying second hand cars from it make it a challenging and potentially hazardous option.
His cautionary tale serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough research and caution when purchasing high-value items like cars online, and highlights the possible drawbacks of relying on platforms that may not provide adequate safeguards against fraud and poor-quality products. His tale is a necessary lesson for anyone guiding the complications of buying second-hand goods.
