People selling different products to earn money is not a new concept. However, have you ever heard about a woman selling rubbish in her house to earn cash? You may seem surprised, but this has happened for real. According to The Sun website, a lady from Leicester, England named Chloe Godland had done this to repay her debt.
Two years ago, she scarcely had £5 (Rs 529.11) in her account to purchase food. She then started selling the rubbish and was able to make enough money which even helped her repay the debt of £11,000 (Rs 11.63 lakh). She also saved money by purchasing her knickers and undergarments from the charity shops.
Chloe, who lives with daughter Clemmie, 2, and partner Jack Gordon, a 33-year-old gym instructor, said that she barely had funds to buy groceries and had Rs 11.63 lakh in credit card debt and loans. According to the Leicester woman, “We were on our knees. The cost of living meant our bills were through the roof. I couldn’t afford bread and beans. It was the shock I needed to get smart with my finances. “It was terrifying and I was in tears initially, but I refused to let debt beat my family”. Besides a 2-year-old daughter, they are also foster parents to a 15-year-old child.
According to Chloe, she adopted some scrimping tactics and has finally become debt-free in her thirties. The Leicester woman said that she has not purchased any new product for a year now. Now, she has become quite used to these saving methods.
Jack, Chloe’s partner, Jack earns just over £29,000 (Rs 30.68 lakh) a year and the family pays £750 (Rs 79,356) a month to rent a two-bedroom flat. At one point they had just £50 (Rs 5,291.14) a month to deposit into an emergency fund. Jack recounted that his family was almost left crippled by three credit card payments and he was only paying the minimum interest on them. Amidst these grave circumstances, they planned to not buy anything new for a year and also put the plan in writing.
