Jumping into the sea is one of the most daring and risky acts that can quickly turn fatal if not careful. Something similar happened to a Florida man, whose one-spot decision not just cost him his dear life, but also the horrifying scene that his wife had to witness up close. The man jumped into the sea from the dock right behind his home to get some exercise, where he had lived since 1984. But his routine dip into the shallow waters had fatal consequences. Thadeus Kubinski, 69, headed out for his usual swim in Florida’s Boca Ciega Bay. He walked down to the dock with his wife, Anna and he decided to begin his swim with a splash and leaped from the jetty into the water below. His wife decided to take the ladder to get into the bay instead of splashing. As she descended into the water, she never knew she would have to witness the final moments of her husband.

When Thadeus jumped into the sea, an unexpected 9-feet shark was lurking below, and attacked him, while his wife helplessly watched as an eyewitness. Reportedly, the splash had startled the shark and was about to strike. The woman later shared that it reminded her of Steven Spileberg’s frightening film, Jaws. She shared that she saw the dorsal fin cutting through the water and swimming towards Thadeus.

The 400-pound bull shark tore a huge chunk out of the right side of her husband’s body and the water turned a hue of red. The beast managed to crush his rib cage and rip through the man. In an autopsy, it was found that the shark left a 15-inch bite wound in a crescent moon shape. The victim bled to death after suffering massive blood loss and organ damage.

Marine biologist George H Burgess, director of the International Shark Attack File at the University of Florida had told the Tampa Bay Times that the shark was just going “about its normal existence” and was looking for lunch. He further said, “Quite frankly, the victim did not have a chance.” The severity of the injury led to a very quick death.

One of his sons told the media that their mother was “pretty much in panic” and the best thing that time she could think of was to run and call for help. The children further informed that the couple were swimming in just 5 feet of water and about 10 feet away from the safety of the dock.

The irony of the situation is that Thadeus had taught his children and grandchildren to swim at the same spot where he lost his life.
