The debate between vegetarians and non-vegetarians is like a never-ending saga. Once again, a woman has stirred the pot by subtly pointing fingers at non-vegetarians for their alleged role in ‘animal cruelty’. Predictably, this move didn’t escape criticism; instead, it drew quite a bit of heat, with folks accusing her of being harsh and judgmental.
The woman behind the controversy, managing the food blogging page @NalinisKitchen, shared a snapshot of a bowl of veggie-packed fried rice, proudly declaring, “I’m proud to be a vegetarian. My plate is free from tears, cruelty, and guilt.” While it seemed like a recycled caption to garner attention, it rubbed many recently, especially those who felt it dismissed non-veg eaters.

One commenter got straight to the point, saying, “There is no connection between vegetarianism and lack of cruelty.” Another asked, “Why search moral superiority in food? Enjoy whatever you like and let others do the same.” Then there was the one who teased, “Not sure about cruelty and guilt but your plate is full of carbs and oil..very unhealthy as compared to Non Veg options !” And a fourth advised, “Good for you. But don’t gaslight,” came the fourth.

Meanwhile, others couldn’t help but point out the irony of glorifying plant-based food, which also involves harvesting living beings. “Isn’t taking away cow/buffalo/goat/sheep’s milk for your own consumption cruel, and ideally should entail tears and guilt, since it was meant for their own offspring, not humans? We all should be proud of ourselves, irrespective of whether we eat meat or don’t,” one person remarked.
Another quipped, “Yet your glass of milk is full of tears, cruelty, and guilt. So same pinch,” A third sarcastically added, “I thought trees were living things. Is it not?”
This incident recalls a similar viral post from last June, which also faced its fair share of criticism.
