These A-listers have represented the six-yard-long fabric in international events, from Deepika Padukone wearing a saree at the Cannes Film Festival to Alia Bhatt donning one at the Met Gala in 2024. Recently, a content creator took over the streets of Japan dressed in a saree, leaving residents stunned.

In the video that has now gone viral on Instagram, the girl is seen wearing a blue saree with intricate golden borders, twirling and swirling on the streets. She paired her saree with a tube blouse and left her voluminous hair loose.

While some locals watched her in awe, others vibed with her. As the video continues, a few young girls and boys can be seen filming her.

The video racked up more than 7 million views on the social media platform.

A user commented, “I love how accurately “muh toh band karo uncle” fits here.” Another user referred to her as “Gen Z Poo”, likening her to Kareena Kapoor’s iconic character.

While some admired her, many criticised her for wearing an ‘inappropriate’ blouse.

A user said, “Yeah, but you forgot to wear a blouse inside.”

Another user said, “Blouse nahi pehna…Log wahi dekh rahay hain.”

Meanwhile, another set of users came to her defence with one user explaining, “Imao guys commenting “wear a blouse, it’s not ethical” don’t realise that before British raj women used to wear sarees without blouses and petticoats. It was introduced because the colonists thought it to be improper for them. Educate yourselves, people. I think she slayed super hard and looks absolutely gorgeous.”
