Veteran industrialist and Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons Ratan Tata passed away at the age of 86 in Mumbai on Wednesday. Known for his humble lifestyle and a simple living, Tata breathed his last at a Mumbai hospital, where he was admitted earlier this week for old age-related health issues.
Tributes started pouring in from all sections of society after the death of the iconic industrialist and philanthropist. The last rites were conducted with full state honours at Worli crematorium in Mumbai after 4 pm on Thursday.
As the whole nation mourns Tata’s death, a heart-warming, old video of the philanthropist celebrating his birthday has resurfaced on Instagram.
The throwback video was first shared two years ago by a Tata employee Vaibhav Bhoir. “Simplicity. Nation’s pride and inspiration for all,” Bhoir wrote in the caption of the video shared on Instagram. The video featured the Tata Group veteran and his young deputy general manager and close aide Shantanu Naidu, who is seen clapping while his boss is blowing out the candle on a cupcake. Then Naidu is seen feeding a piece of cupcake to Ratan Tata.
“He taught us so many things in so little time. Respect for the legend. RIP,” read one comment.
Another Instagram user reacted to the video by writing, “If Ratan Tata wanted then he could easily become one of the wealthiest men in the world but he chose to be humble and charitable. Truly a wonderful and amazing person.”
“I am just feeling terrible. It’s very hard to believe that he is no more. What a loss for our entire nation. We lost a Gem,” observed another person.
“The loss of Ratan Tata sir feels deeply personal. His legacy of integrity, innovation, and compassion will continue to inspire generations to come. You will always remain in our memories,” read another response.
This person commented, “He’s our Guiding Star, a real hero, a sage. India has lost the invaluable ‘Ratan’ (diamond). My tribute to the philanthropist! Rest in peace Sir Ratan Tata.”
Ratan Tata served as the chairman of Tata Sons between March 1991 and December 2012. The legendary industrialist was honoured with the prestigious Padma Vibhushan award in 2008.
