The almost 3-minute video, which surfaced on Ragu’s social media accounts, reportedly revealed three men restraining the bull while another feeding raw meat to the animal before forcefully shoving a live chicken into its mouth.

In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage, the Tamil Nadu police have filed a case against a YouTuber identified as Ragu, after he posted a distressing video depicting a Jallikattu bull being force-fed a live rooster. The incident occurred in Chinnappampatti, Salem district, and has prompted authorities to take swift action. The 2.48-minute video, which surfaced on Ragu’s social media accounts, revealed three men restraining the bull while another feeding raw meat to the animal before forcefully shoving a live chicken into its mouth. The act has raised concerns over animal cruelty and the potential exploitation of animals for competitive events.

According to the report by NDTV, Arun Prasanna, the founder of People For Cattle Aim India (PFCI), filed a complaint with the Salem district police, leading to the registration of a case under charges of maiming, invoking relevant sections of the Prevention of Animal Cruelty Act and including allegations of hurting religious sentiments.

The Inspector of Police in Tharamangalam, when questioned about the case, told the news portal, “We have filed an FIR. We are investigating. We have not arrested anyone yet.”

Jallikattu, a traditional bull-taming festival, is popular in Tamil Nadu, where winning bulls and their owners receive prizes, including coveted gold coins. However, animal rights activists have argued that the video showcased cruelty towards both the live rooster and the herbivorous bull, as forcing the latter to consume poultry is deemed unimaginable.

Arun Prasanna, expressing his concern over potential repercussions, remarked, “This involves extreme cruelty to both the live rooster being chewed and the bull. The bull is a herbivorous animal, and to force it to feed on poultry is unimaginable. My only fear is that this doesn’t set a bad trend. If this bull wins, then many bull owners would follow suit.”

Taking place on the third day of the Pongal festival in January, Jallikattu is a traditional bull-taming sport that holds a special significance in the villages of Tamil Nadu. Played in open grounds, this unique sport involves releasing a bull into a crowd of participants who attempt to control the animal by piling onto its hump or horns. This cultural spectacle attracts tourists from around the globe, drawn to Tamil Nadu to witness Jallikattu as a symbol of the region’s rich cultural heritage.
