In an attempt to give a taste of the Indian flavours to Narendra Modi away from home in New York, star chef Vikas Khanna cooked a ravioli for the Prime Minister's meeting with CEOs of top global companies on Thursday.
Though the Italian dish ravioli was presented to the PM and the other dignitaries in an avataar. "We cooked ravioli for the PM but we made it with the Gujarati dish Khandvi," Khanna said.
"We just cooked what we usually make during Indian festivals. Everyone came up to me saying that they did not know Indian food tasted like this," the elated star chef said.
The Amritsar born chef, who unveiled his book on cuisine for festivals and rituals of Indian communities titled 'Utsav - A culinary epic of Indian festivals' at Cannes, prepared a six-seven course meal covering 30-plus festivals in that spread and showcase 'rich, beautiful India' in a new age and fine dining avatar.
Other food items likely to have been on Modi's plate included poha, modak, thandai, dates, non-alcoholic drinks and desserts, but in a fine dining format.
The dinner meeting was held at the New York's Waldorf Astoria, a luxury five-star hotel.
