An Indian-origin student, Sameer Kamath, was found dead at a nature reserve in the US this week, marking the fifth such incident this year. However, the cause of Kamath’s death remains unclear at the moment.

He was found at about 5 pm Monday at Crow’s Grove Nature Preserve at 3300 North Warren County Road 50 West, in Williamsport, Warren County Coroner Justin Brummett said in a press release on Tuesday, according to local media. Kamath, a doctoral candidate at Purdue University in Indiana, held US citizenship and had completed his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in August last year.

US media reports said the coroner’s office notified Kamath’s family of his passing, and a forensic autopsy is scheduled to be performed in Crawfordsville on Tuesday afternoon. His death is still being probed by the Warren County Coroner’s Office and sheriff’s office.

This comes days after another Indian-origin student Neel Acharya, studying at Purdue, was found dead on campus. Neel Acharya was a double major in computer science and data science at the John Martinson Honors College. In a separate case, 19-year-old Shreyas Reddy was found dead in Ohio, while Vivek Saini, an MBA student in Georgia, died after being attacked by a homeless man.

These increasing numbers of cases have raised concerns about the well-being of the Indian student community in the US. Another Indian student from Hyderabad was attacked this week near his house in a chilling video that has since gone viral. The Indian mission in the US has assured assistance to Syed Mazahir Ali who was attacked in the city of Chicago by four armed robbers.
