The Indian-origin CEO of US-based visa startup Atlys has kept his promise of offering free visas to all Indians for a day, despite Neeraj Chopra winning a silver medal instead of gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Mohak Nahta had earlier declared that if Chopra secured the gold, Atlys would provide free visas for a day to people applying for a visa to any country without incurring any costs. Although defending champion Chopra fell short of retaining his gold medal in the men’s javelin throw and finished behind Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, Nahta has chosen to honour his commitment.
Free Visas For Indians
‘Not the colour of our medal but…’
In a LinkedIn post, Nahta said he would keep his promise because the “spirit” of the sport matters more than the ‘colour’ of the ‘medal.’ “I promised a free visa if we won gold. Today, it’s clear—it’s not the colour of the medal but our spirit that shines. To celebrate this achievement, I’m going ahead with our original offer of free visas for all Indians today,” he said.
Nahta has instructed people who commented with their emails on his earlier posts to expect instructions from Atlys on how to redeem this offer shortly. “People who commented with their emails on my earlier posts will receive instructions via email from Atlys on how to redeem this offer shortly,” he added.
Chopra’s silver medal has made him the second Indian male athlete to win two Olympic medals in an individual event post-independence. Despite the loss, the Indian and Pakistani athletes maintain a strong friendship off the field, with Chopra previously supporting Nadeem when he sought funds for a quality javelin.
Nahta’s gesture has been met with excitement and appreciation from the Indian community, with many eagerly awaiting the promised free visas. “Thank U Mohak Nahta Sir For Fulfilling Your Promise and giving me Oppurtunity to Apply For Visa. So On Your Email, I successfully Applied for Canadian Tourist Visas Absolutely Free Under Neeraj Chopra Olympic Medal Scheme. Again Big Thx 2 u. Anyways I would Like to Join Your team Atlys,” wrote one of the users.
