The only daughter of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth, and sister of King Charles, suffered a concussion and head injuries following a horse-related incident.

Princess Anne could be sidelined from royal duties for coming weeks as she recovers from head injuries and a concussion following a horse-related incident.

Princess Royal Anne was rushed to the hospital over the weekend after she suffered wounds to the head at the Gatcombe Park estate.

King Charles’ former royal butler Grant Harrold while speaking to the New York Post said that the absence of Princess Anne will have a “big impact on her”.

“Anne could be out of royal duties for the next few days or even weeks. As one of the hardest-working members of the Royal family, it’s going to have a big impact on her,” Harrold was quoted as saying by the New York Post.

Anne, who is 73 years old, is said to have been hurt by a horse while strolling on the grounds of the royal residence Sunday evening.

“This incident will probably make Anne even more determined to ensure it doesn’t happen again,” the former butler added.

Princess Anne’s husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, along with her daughter Zara Tindall and son Peter Phillips, were all present on the estate during the incident. Other senior members of the royal family were informed of Anne’s injuries on Sunday evening.

“I know she will want to recover quickly so she can get back to her royal duties. She’s somebody who wants to get on with what she’s expected to do,” Harrold further added.

Anne, the only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, has cancelled all her official duties scheduled for this week, including a State Visit and a trip to Canada.

“On doctors’ advice, Her Royal Highness’s engagements for the week ahead will be postponed. Her Royal Highness sends her apologies to any who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result,” her spokesperson said.

The Princess is an experienced and accomplished rider, winning the individual European Three-Day Event at Burghley in 1971. She also represented Great Britain in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Earlier this month, during the King’s Trooping the Colour ceremony, the Princess Royal rode on horseback. However, at one point during the procession, she nearly lost control of her horse.
