Conservative MP Bob Blackman on Wednesday took the oath of allegiance to HM King Charles by holding the King James Bible in one hand and the Bhagavad Gita on the other hand in the House of Commons.
Taking to X, the Conservative MP wrote, “Proud to have taken my oath of allegiance to HM King Charles on the King James Bible and the Gita as we return to Parliament after the General Election.”

Notably, this isn’t the first time that Blackman took oath with the Bhagavad Gita in his hands. For the first time in 2019, Blackman, who is not of Indian-origin, but who represents Harrow East, which has a large Hindu population, was seen taking the oath with Bhagavad Gita.
Honouring the Bhagavad Gita at the British Parliament, Blackman is known to be the first MP to host a talk on the Bhagavad Gita at the House of Commons.
In fact in 2020 again, Bob Blackman was seen holding Gita in one hand and Bible in another while taking oath following the elections. In fact, a similar trend was followed by Rishi Sunak, Alok Sharma and Shailesh Vara in the same year.
Notably, Rishi Sunak in 2022 became the first Indian-origin Prime Minister, who swore his oath of allegiance on being elected MP in the House of Commons on the Bhagavad Gita.
Blackman on Ayodhya Ram Mandir
Notably, UK Member of Parliament Bob Blackman, earlier in 2024, also raised concern over the British media’s biased reporting of the Ram Mandir. The MP while speaking in the UK parliament said, “In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, the Ram Mandir was consecrated. This was of great joy to Hindus across the world as being the birthplace of Lord Ram.”
“Very sadly, the BBC, in their coverage reported, of course, that this was the site of the destruction of a mosque forgetting the fact that it had been a temple for more than 2000 years before that happened and that the Muslims had been allocated a five-acre site on which to erect a mosque adjacent to the town,” he added.
