A promising build-up to next month’s WrestleMania 40 took place in this week’s episode of WWE’s Monday Night Raw on March 26, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois. The show started with ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes speaking on his much-followed feud with the ‘Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns. Rhodes’ speech, however, was cut short when Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson made his entry.
Fans were expecting something to happen but The Rock walked off after whispering something in Cody’s ear that neither of the superstars would divulge in the interviews conducted behind the scenes.
The Big-ticket Encounter
Wrestlemania’s main event bout between Reigns and Rhodes is set to be an epic encounter, but the challenger and The Rock have been going after each other for months, so that fight is now the more intriguing of the two. On the first night, they will square off in tag team action, but a one-on-one matchup appears imminent.
CM Punk Returns
As anticipated, CM Punk made a triumphant comeback to his home crowd at the All-State Arena and was welcomed with a voracious reception. An interesting point to note was that his arm was still in a cast, he also revealed that he is yet to be medically cleared to compete. The World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins made his appearance and the two had a verbal tussle. The champion believes that Punk is as close to a title as he can get considering his injuries and warned the Chicago man and top contender Drew McIntyre.
The Chicago crowd devoured every word that the three top performers spat out, attacking one another with verbal jabs. Before the announcement that CM Punk would be joining the commentary crew at WrestleMania when The Visionary defended his title against The Scottish Warrior. During the segment, there were several personal jabs, funny one-liners, and forceful displays of disapproval. Punk also teased being an “impartial referee” for the Rollins vs McIntyre bout at WrestleMania.
Becky Lynch Sets Her Sights on Rhea Ripley’s Title
There was another interesting tussle involving two of the WWE’s top female superstars, Becky Lynch and Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley. They’ve faced off multiple times and saw their rivalry only become stronger on Monday night. The champion voiced her concerns that ‘The Man’ was not taking her seriously and just as Dominik Mysterio looked to back her up, Lynch made a sensational entry to confront her opponent at WrestleMania.
The passion in Lynch’s voice and on her face as she discussed her late father’s inability to meet her daughter and the response from the audience made this segment even more powerful. It will certainly build up on the highly anticipated bout between the two.
These two demonstrated that they were unwilling to step back, especially on a night when CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, and Seth Rollins all gave terrific performances.
Seth Rollins’ mega clash
Elsewhere, Seth Rollins confronted Jey Uso on the exchange the latter had just had with Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa. This was followed by the main event featuring Jey Uso vs Shinsuke Nakamura.
At the end of the match, Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins successfully repelled the interference of Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa, but Drew McIntyre also made his presence by delivering the Future Shock DDT at Rollins on the arena floor. However, Jey managed to get the victory by delivering a spear on Nakamura to get the pinfall.
The Rock Attacks Cody Rhodes
Following the main event bout, The Rock attacked The American Nightmare after Cody Rhodes, Jimmy Uso, and Solo Sikoa continued their altercation backstage. He shoved Rhodes onto his tour bus and proceeded to verbally abuse and beat him down. He wounded Rhodes and smeared the red blood on a customized weight belt with the words ‘Mama Rhodes’ on it. The show ended with The Rock, calling himself ‘The Final Boss’, reminding the viewers of his pledge to harm Cody’s family and cause them suffering.
