Before the ICC ODI World Cup got underway on October 5, captains of all ten teams featuring in the tournament came together at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday for the mandatory meet. Former WWE superstar The Great Khali was one of the notable personalities at the event, alongside ex-India coach Ravi Shastri and England’s World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan. After the formalities were over, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was spotted sharing a banter with Khali. A picture from the fun-filled encounter was dropped by Rohit’s IPL franchise Mumbai Indians on Instagram. The photograph captured the duo shaking hands with hearty smiles on their faces.

After biding adieu to professional wrestling, The Great Khali now stays in India. He often shares engaging content on social media platforms and has become a popular figure among internet users. Those who follow Khali on Instagram are well aware of fan reactions to his posts. Whenever Khali comes up with any post, his followers pour in hilarious comments, making some out-of-the-world demands.
Going by the trend, Mumbai Indians captioned the Instagram post, “Khali sir, front foot defence khelke ball duniya ke bahar maar do (Khali sir, smash the ball out of the world with front-foot defence).” Considering his height, a fan predicted a short ball would seem like a full-toss delivery to The Great Khali. Another user requested Khali to conduct the forthcoming India vs Pakistan match on his broad chest.
Not only Rohit Sharma, but other captains also got the opportunity to interact with The Great Khali and enjoyed their time. They all took part in a photo session with the prestigious World Cup trophy in the stands of the Ahmedabad stadium. In an honourary gesture, the cricketers gifted a memento t-shirt having the World Cup emblem to Khali. A clip of the special event was shared on Instagram by the ICC.

The World Cup will kick off with a rematch of the 2019 final between England and New Zealand. There were reports earlier that BCCI would organise a glamorous opening ceremony in Ahmedabad on October 4, as part of the All Captains’ Meet event. That ceremony never took place. A report by the Times of India claimed that there was never an opening ceremony of the cards for the World Cup.
