Datsun has launched its new car - redi-GO - in India at a price of Rs 2,49,220 (ex-showroom, Mumbai) onwards. The high-end variant of the car, however, is priced at Rs 3,48,845.

The new Datsun redi-GO will be available in five variants - D,A, T, T (O), S - and five colour options - White, Silver, Grey, Ruby and Lime.

The new car is claimed to deliver fuel economy of 25.17 kmpl. According to Datsun, the all-new 0.8L three-cylinder i-SAT engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission helps it accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 15.9 seconds. It achieves a top speed of 140 km/h.

The new Datsun redi-GO, as the company claims, comes with a comprehensive safety package – Datsun Pro-Safe7 - which includes safety solutions like shortest braking distance, high strength body shell to absorb impacts, good visibility and wider view of the road.

Buyers of the Datsun red-GO will have a host of personalisation options. They will also have to option to extend warranty with free roadside assistance.

Datsun's latest product brings the company into the most fierce segment of the competition in the Indian automobile sector, the entry-level hatchbacks.

The segment has been ruled by Maruti with the Alto for years now, and only recently, was challenged by Renault's Kwid.

Although the company has priced the car very competitively, which will be a major crowd-pulling factor, what remains to be seen is whether the car turns out to be a reliable offering and if the company is able to deliver on after-sale services.
