Hyderabad: New Cherlapalli Rail Terminal To Open This Month With Airport-Like Facilities
The new terminal will not only ease the burden on Secunderabad, Nampally, and Kacheguda stations but also cater to the growing needs of the city's population.

A new terminal for rail passengers at Cherlapalli, on the outskirts of the city, is almost ready and is expected to open this month.

Built at a cost of Rs 430 crore, the terminal features modern amenities similar to those found at airports.

Railway officials say many trains are likely to start from Cherlapalli once it opens, as the existing stations at Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda are overcrowded. To help reduce congestion, Lingampalli station in the west is also being developed as a terminal.

The new Cherlapalli station building has a modern architectural design and will include six booking counters, separate waiting halls for women and men, an upper-class waiting area, and an executive lounge on the ground floor.

According to South Central Railway (SCR) officials, the first floor will house a cafeteria, restaurant, feeding cabins for mothers, and restrooms for both women and men. The design also includes spacious concourse areas and a modern, illuminated facade. The station is part of the MMTS Phase II project.

The revamped station will have four additional high-level platforms, and the existing five platforms will be extended to accommodate full-length trains. There will be two new foot over bridges, one 12 meters wide and another 6 meters wide, to allow easy movement between platforms. All nine platforms will have escalators and lifts. The station will also have coach maintenance facilities for trains starting from there.

“Cherlapalli railway station will become the fourth major passenger terminal in the twin cities. The new terminal is being developed with modern facilities and technology on par with airports,” said a senior SCR official as quoted by the Telangana Today,

The official explained that the new terminal will not only ease the burden on Secunderabad, Nampally, and Kacheguda stations but also meet the growing needs of the city’s population. Its proximity to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the upcoming Regional Ring Road (RRR) will benefit passengers significantly, the officials added.
