A look at some of the most awaited launches by Maruti Suzuki this year.

Maruti Suzuki has been a very well sought after car brand in India. Remember back in the 90s when the '800' and Esteem dominated our roads. Some families actually have a sort of a rule to abide by that only a Maruti will be bought for the household.

Hence, here's a look at some of the most awaited launches by the company this year:

Maruti Suzuki Swift

Suzuki Motor Corporation announced on December 27 that the all-new Swift compact car will go on sale in Japan on 4 January, 2017. This next-gen Swift is expected to hit the Indian market mid-2017.

The new car will have sporty styling and low-fuel consumption achieved through the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) mild hybrid system, a fuel efficient 1.2-litre DUALJET engine with high thermal efficiency, and light and rigid new-generation platform “HEARTECT”. Read more here

The new Ciaz may have a sunroof, of course reserved for the top range models. It will have plenty of cosmetic upgrades and added features. While there will not many changes in terms of performance in the diesel variant, the new Ciaz will definitely be more of a premium vehicle.

The petrol version could get an upgrade, giving it more power. The Ciaz stands to give a serious competition to Honda City facelift and new Hyundai Verna. Read more here

There have been several reports surrounding the S-Cross is on its way to Indian shores even though there is no official date as of now. But given the excitement surrounding aggressive looking, mini-SUVs in India, the S-Cross seems like a good option for Maruti Suzuki. The refreshed model looks sharper than its predecessor thanks to the bold new front grille and increased ride height. It now has 180 mm of ground clearance compared to the original model's 165 mm. The S-Cross also gets new projector headlamps with a redesigned bumper completing the bold new front fascia.

The S-Cross is sold globally with a 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engine options along with a 1.4-litre BoosterJet petrol engine. At this point, any speculation about the kind of engine that will power the Indian offering is too far-fetched. Read more here

The car is expected to be launched in February and will be powered by a 998cc three-cylinder BoosterJet turbo petrol engine that is likely to deliver 100 horsepower and 150 NBm of torque.Also read: Maruti Hikes Prices by Upto Rs 8,014 With Immediate Effect

The engine is expected to come mated with a five-speed manual transmission, although, an AMT-version of the car is expected to make way later this year. The 'BoosterJet' engine is the first turbo petrol engine to be ever put into a Maruti car in India. Read more here
