Ssangyong has unveiled the new Rexton at the ongoing Seoul Motor Show. The same car, with a few changes, is expected to make its way by the end of 2017 as a Mahindra offering.
The Ssangyong Rexton will be first launched in South Korea and subsequently be launched in other countries.
The car gets new exterior styling which takes inspiration from the Ssangyong LIV-2 concept. The dual-tone front bumper, ample of chrome and the imposing headlight and front grille layout gives the car a bold stance.
Inside, there is a dual-tone layout on offer which uses wooden accents on the dash. The main attraction, though, is the huge 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes connected to a 10 speaker setup for a good audio experience. There are nine airbags and multiple driver assistance systems to keep the safety in check.
At the heart of the new Rexton is a 2.2-ltre diesel engine that is mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox – which has been sourced from Mercedes-Benz.
What remains to be seen is the pricing and the configurations that Mahindra decides to bring the car with in India later this year. Upon launch, it will be going up against the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The expected name of the car has been reported to be XUV700 but as of now, there is no official announcement as to what the car will be named as.
