The market witnessed a smart rally. The Sensex closed up 101.86 points at 1.02 per cent at 10,082.28. It touched an all-time high of 10,099.58.

New Delhi: The market witnessed a smart rally. It was an all-time closing high for the Sensex, Nifty and CNX Midcap Index.

The Sensex closed up 101.86 points at 1.02 per cent at 10,082.28. It touched an all-time high of 10,099.58. The Sensex closed above 10000 for the first time ever.

The Nifty closed up 19.65 points or 0.65 per cent at 3020.10. It touched an all-time high of 3025.10.

The CNX Midcap Index closed up 21.05 points or 0.48 per cent at 4368.90. It touched an all-time high of 4388.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed up 5.23 points at 6,130.29. The BSE Midcap Index closed up 6.94 points at 4,753.56.

The market breadth was negative, about 994 shares advanced, 1444 shares declined, and 71 shares remained unchanged.

Sail, MTNL, Tata Motors, M&M, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Cipla and Maruti were the biggest index gainers.

ONGC, GSK Pharma, Ranbaxy Labs, Dabur India, HPCL, and reliance Energy were the biggest index losers.

The total market turnover today was at Rs 36,025.82 crore. The BSE cash turnover was at Rs 3,778.28 crore. The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7,624 crore. The NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 24,623.54 crore.

Analysts are looking beyond the 10,000 mark, and say that the markets have the potential for another 1000-1500 point rally now.

he BSE Bankex outperformed the other indices. It closed up 2.71 per cent at 5,303.88 amid gains in Bank of India, UTI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Union Bank and Allahabad Bank.

Auto stocks like Bharat Forge, Ashok Leyland, MRF, M&M, Tube Investment, Tata Motors, Maruti, Escorts and Hero Honda also firmed up. The BSE Auto Index closed up 2.22 per cent at 4,691.92.

FMCG stocks like Shaw Wallace, Tata Tea, ITC and HLL also flared up. The BSE FMCG Index closed up 1.72 per cent at 1,784.23.

Buying was also seen in metal, technology and pharma stocks. The BSE Metal Index closed up 0.55 per cent at 7,220.62 and the BSE IT Index closed up 0.48 per cent at 3,716.96. The BSE Healthcare Index closed up 0.43 per cent at 3,492.46.

Oil stocks however lost ground. The BSE Oil & Gas Index closed down 0.52 per cent at 4,505 amid losses in ONGC, Gail, BPCL, HPCL, MRPL and Petronet LNG.

Select consumer durables and capital goods stocks also ended lower. The BSE Consumer Durables Index closed down 0.09 per cent at 3,121. The BSE Capital Goods Index closed down 0.09 per cent at 7,064.12.
