Markets end flat, banking stocks gain

New Delhi: It was another flat trading day for the markets due to lack of buying interest in scrips. However banking stocks made smart gains.

The Sensex closed up 16.61 points or 0.12 per cent at 14131.34, and the Nifty ended down 4.05 points or 0.10 per cent at 4076.45.

About 1570 shares have advanced, 1010 shares declined, and 60 shares are unchanged.

Reliance Comm, ICICI Bank, L&T, SBI, HPCL, Jet Airways and BPCL were the top gainers on the indices.

HDFC Bank, ONGC, TCS, ITC and Suzlon Energy and VSNL were the top losers on the indices.

The BSE Bankex gained 1.09 per cent or 80.77 points at 7,499.77. Oriental Bank, ICICI Bank, Federal Bank, Kotak Mahindra and Andhra Bank ended up.

The BSE Capital Good index closed up 0.83 per cent or 77.56 points at 9,438.66. Alstom Projects, Praj Industries, Siemens, KEC Infrastruct and L&T moved up.

The BSE Healthcare index was up 0.60 pee cent or 23.41 points at 3,924.47. Divis Labs, Ipca Labs, Biocon, Wockhardt and Pfizer gained.

However, the BSE Auto index was down 0.26 per cent or 14.65 points at 5,685.08. M&M, Cummins, Punj Tractors, Bharat Forge, TVS Motor closed negative.

The BSE FMCG index was down 0.74 per cent or 14.32 points at 1,912.95. Nestle, P&G, ITC, Tata Tea, Britannia slipped.

The BSE Metal index ended down 0.30 per cent or 27.74 points at 9,135.00. Sesa Goa, Hind Zinc, Jindal Saw, Sterlite Ind and Hindalco declined.

The BSE IT index closed flat 0.06 per cent or 3.13 points at 5,375.76. TCS, Infosys, Mphasis, Wipro, Patni Computer ended down

The BSE Oil & gas index was down 0.12 per cent or 7.91 points at 6,557.64. ONGC and GAIL closed in red.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8753.15 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 23620.18 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4721.8 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 37095.13 crore.
