Meet The Maharashtra Farmer, Whose Automatic Poultry Farm Sees Rs 15 Crore Turnover
The farmer recently built an automatic poultry farm for 50,000 chickens which cost him Rs 18 crore.

At one point in time, farmers of Amravati, Maharashtra used to earn a daily wage of just Rs 5. However, one farmer decided to change his fate by doing something different and worked hard for it. He came up with an automatic poultry farm which costs about Rs 20 crore and the turnover is in crores as well. The poultry farm now has 50 employees and the farmer is a successful entrepreneur.

Ravindra Manikar Metkar began his livelihood as a farmer and today is the leading egg producer in the state. His poultry farm is known to produce 2 lakh eggs every day. He recently built an automatic poultry farm for 50,000 chickens which cost him Rs 18 crore. He has another poultry farm for 1.3 lakh chickens which supplies eggs to Maharashtra and its surrounding states as well. Such is his success story that the Agriculture Ministry calls Ravindra Metkar to deliver lectures to inspire farmers.

Ravindra Metkar’s father was a Class IV employee and the financial condition of the house was weak. To support his father and contribute to the household income, he took up poultry farming. His father supported him in this journey and withdrew Rs 30,000 from his Provident Fund (PF) account.

The farmer began by putting up a small tin shed and 100 hens. During that time, there was no other way of going to the roof of the shed except for using a wooden ladder. As the number of chickens increased, the need for a larger place became evident. However, there was no money to invest in buying a bigger space. His mother had inherited her maternal family’s farm which Ravindra sold for Rs 1.25 lakh to buy land near his village. He also took a loan from the bank to raise chickens.

Soon, he was rearing thousands of chickens and the number kept increasing every year. He would borrow from the bank and then repay it. With his recent loan, he built an automatic poultry farm for 50,000 chickens. He has employed 50 people to work here and the daily expenditure on the chickens is Rs 4 lakh. But the annual turnover of the poultry farm is Rs 15 crore.
