New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath on Thursday said that the government will not allow Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to be sabotaged.
''The Centre will not let the SEZs sabotaged. We are ready for a debate on the real and imaginary loopholes of SEZs,'' he said on Thursday.
He said that there may be some loopholes in the SEZ Act and those needed to be addressed.
Nath added that SEZs will drive the economic growth and are key to generating employment and boosting manufacturing.
Speaking at a function organised by the export promotion council for Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and SEZ (EPCES), he invited the organisation to play a major role towards creating awareness among people.
Nath said that the Government needs to ensure its 'enabling role' for SEZ Act, as exports had increased showing that the country is global competitive.
''There are some real concerns, which the government will address but there are also some imaginary concerns,'' he said.
Reiterating government's commitment to SEZs, he assured that it will not be a real estate racket and will never upset the farmers.
Nath added that land should be acquired on a transaction basis, ensuring independent dealing between buyers and purchasers.
