Revered Tamil Philosopher Thiruvalluvar’s Statue Unveiled In France
The statue was made on the request of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Thiruvalluvar is considered as one of the most reputed philosophers by the Tamilian. He is considered as a symbol of the vitality of life and ethics. According to the latest updates, a statue of Thiruvalluvar has been unveiled in France, and is garnering praises by the government and the masses. According to reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the French government to install a statue of Thiruvalluvar in Cergy, during his visit to the country in July this year. The Government of France instantly accepted the request, and a statue was installed by the Ezhuyal Tamil Cultural Forum in the country on Sunday.

The reports state that the statue was installed at the Park Franzwa Mitteran, in Cergey. The unveiling of the statue was done by Lakshmi Narayanan, who is the Puducherry Public Works Minister. The opening ceremony for the unveiling was graced by Kurinji Venthan, a professor at the Thanjavur Tamil University, who is also the head of the Department of Foreign Tamil Education. The event was also attended by the Indian High Commission officials to the country of France.

On December 10, the minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar took to X to tweet about the statue. He wrote, “The inauguration of Thiruvalluvar statue in Cergy, France today implements PM @narendramodi’s assurance given during his visit for Bastille day.” He further wrote that this statue will act as a guide to others to follow the thoughts of the noble man and “is yet another symbol of our long-standing cultural links, a key pillar of friendship.”

Responding to the minister’s post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Thiruvalluvar statue in Cergy, France is a beautiful testament to our shared cultural bonds. Thiruvalluvar stands tall as a symbol of wisdom and knowledge. His writings motivate millions across the world.”

Thiruvalluvar is best known for writing the text Tirukkuṟaḷ, which covers topics like ethics, politics, economics and love. It is regarded as one of the most brilliant pieces in Tamil literature.
