England’s second group game at the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will see them take on South Africa on Monday. England have not won the tournament since its inaugural edition back in 2009. They made the finals on three other occasions in 2012, 2014 and 2016. They lost each of those finals to six-time winners Australia.
As for the ongoing competition, England began their campaign with a comfortable 21-run victory over Bangladesh. Danni Wyatt won the Player of the Match award for her 40-ball 41. She hit five boundaries in the game to help England put up a total of 118/7.
During the run chase, Linsey Smith and Charlie Dean combined for four wickets to limit Bangladesh to 97/7. Beating South Africa in their next game will bring England a step closer to the semis.
The Women’s World Cup 2024 fixture between England and South Africa will take place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
South Africa put up a dominant show in their tournament opener against the West Indies. An impressive spell from Nonkululeko Mlaba saw South Africa curb the Caribbean side to 118/6. Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits then scored half-centuries to complete the chase. South Africa won the match by 10 wickets.
