'Even A Simple Jerk Felt So Painful For Him': NCA Physio Recalls Rishabh Pant's Long Arduous Road to Recovery
The path to recovery is never easy and recently, the physiotherapists at the NCA who have been assisting Rishabh Pant with the same, opened up on the journey and the nitty-gritty of the process to recover and get back to his best.

It’s not about how hard we can hit, but rather about how hard we can get hit and keep moving forward. The same words would encapsulate the swashbuckling phenom batter Rishabh Pant, as the wicketkeeper continues his recovery steadily.

The path to recovery is never easy and recently, the physiotherapists at the NCA who have been assisting Rishabh Pant with the same, opened up on the journey and the nitty-gritty of the process to recover and get back to his best.

It was in December of 2022 when Pant met with a freak accident that almost ended his life.

The 25-year-old was alone when he reportedly dozed off at the wheel, leading his Mercedes to collide with a road divider and subsequently catch fire. Local passersby, including a bus driver, rushed to his aid, and he was transported to a hospital in Roorkee before being moved to Max Hospital in Dehradun for further treatment.

At the NCA, who overlook his recovery process, physio Thulasi Yuvraj revealed the sheer pain Pant endured in the initial stages of recovery and recalled instances of his sheer grit allowing him to get to where he has gotten now.

“When we came to know he had an accident, our head of sports science, Nitin bhai, basically told us just to go and take care of the initial stage of rehab.”

“The first thing I could notice, he is having severe pain was when the ward boy was trying to push the stretcher towards the room and it slightly hit the pathway.”

“He started screaming with so much pain. It was a simple jerk but it felt so painful, he cried immediately. Then I realised, oh something big has happened,” said Yuvraj.

Thulasi also stated that Pant’s mental strength and confidence enabled the physios themselves to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to his recovery and helped find strength within.

“The mental strength and confidence inside him made us give our 100 percent in doing the rehab part for him. The doctors were of the opinion that he may take up to two years. Once he came to NCA, it was like a progressive phase for him,” said Yuvraj.

Pant though has completely dedicated himself to the draining 14-month long process and as a result nears a comeback to cricketing action soon as he was declared fit for the upcoming IPL season. He has now joined the Delhi Capitals camp in Vizag ahead of their first match against Punjab Kings in Mohali, as fans and followers alike lie in wait to witness the power-hitter back in action.
