'God's Got a Plan': Virat Kohli Hails Hard Work Put in by RCB After Epic Comeback
RCB made a terrific comeback to win six matches in a row to force their way into the IPL 2024 playoffs.

Virat Kohli feels Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been rewarded by god for staying true to their hard work which helped them leave behind a horror start to IPL 2024 and book a spot in the playoffs by beating title holders Chennai Super Kings in a thrilling clash recently.

Speaking to RCB after RCB defeated CSK by 27 runs in front of their home fans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Kohli said, “God’s got a plan. You just have to be honest to what you are doing and I think we were pretty honest with our hard work. I don’t want to say anything more than this. We have to focus on the next one.”

RCB’s recovery in the season is nothing short of a remarkable turnaround. They won just one of their first eight matches, a poor run that pushed them to the bottom of the standings. Needing to win their remaining six matches to stay in playoffs contention, RCB bounced back to do just that.

Kohli has been key to RCB’s performance this year. With over 800 runs in 14 matches so far, the former skipper is the Orange Cap holder and will hope to add to his tally when the franchise locks horns with Rajasthan Royals in the IPL Eliminator to be played in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis termed his team’s achievement as ‘incredible’ and is yet to come to grip with the reality of them making it to the IPL playoffs.

“It was just one per cent chance of us (to qualify), so we were just trying to make sure we play some better cricket and then getting on a roll,” Du Plessis said. “Probably maybe two games ago when you start thinking about a possibility of that (qualifying). But even walking off the field tonight, it does it does feel like a dream. It doesn’t feel like it’s real. You go six on the bounce and even the way that we won tonight with the runs that we needed, to win the game is incredible achievement.”

RCB lost six matches in a row which left them on the brink of elimination. So what changed?

“The difference between the first half and the second half is that it’s become such a team performance,” Du Plessis said. “The whole team is performing, the whole batting lineup is scoring at 160-plus strike rate. All the bowers are getting wickets, the fielding has been incredible. So, I think what makes it so much more pleasing is that everyone has contributed.”
