Jasprit Bumrah is one of the finest bowlers to have played for India and is widely considered to be the best all-format pacer.

With the quantity of cricket being played during a calendar year, managing workload and fitness has become crucial, especially for fast bowlers who are more prone to injury breakdowns given the load they exert on their bodies consistently. Jasprit Bumrah, one of the finest fast bowlers of the modern era, has tasted success across formats and therefore is a vital part of Indian set up with some even branding him as the team’s most important ‘asset’.

Bumrah has consistently delivered across formats with the recent 2024 T20 World Cup being a prime example of his rare talent when he played a starring role in their title triumph. The pacer though has had his shares of run-ins with injuries with a back issue keeping him away from cricket for almost a year.

And the 30-year-old knows how difficult is it for his tribe to remain in top fitness as it has the potential to derail careers. The Indian team is considered among the fittest in the world with the likes of Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja often being cited as examples.

Recently, during an event, Bumrah was asked which player he thinks is the fittest in the Indian cricket team and his answer resulted in laughter and applause.

“I know the answer that you are searching for but I would like to say my name because I am a fast bowler,” Bumrah rattled off. “I’ve been playing for a while. Being a fast bowler and playing in this country in the heat takes a lot of requirement. So I’ll always promote fast bowlers and always take their name.”

Bumrah has been given an extended break by the Indian team management following his exploits at the T20 World Cup where he took 15 wickets in eight matches at an economy of 4.18. He will make his competitive return next week when India host Bangladesh for the first Test of a two-match series in Chennai.
