CSK started off on the backfoot out the gate, after losing Ajinkya Rahane in the very first over off their innings to a brilliant delivery from Matt Henry.
But, the early setback did not do much to hinder Gaikwad, who went on the attack on the other end, taking on the LSG pacers with confidence, and found the boundary at will.

In fact, his 37* off 19 is his second highest score in the powerplay in the IPL, only behind 46* off 20 against the same team at the same venue last year.
After a quickfire partnerships with Daryl Mitchell and Ravindra Jadeja came to an end, the skipper alongside his trusted middle-order hard-hitter Shivam Dube, went on the offense, as the duo bullied the LSG bowlers to keep their side in contention.
Gaikwad, for all his aggression, played a controlled innings, opting to play the spaces and find the fours with ease initially.
It was then finally in the 15th over, when Ruturaj whacked one off Matt Stoinis to clear the boundary and score his first six of the innings.
Gaikwad also got to his century with a smoking six down deep extra cover and a sensational drive to find the boundary again, off Yash Thakur, to celebrate in style.
There was no stopping the duo of Dube-Gaikwad, and the skipper himself as well, as he went paced out the innings to allow the likes of Dube to get his share of fiery sixes as well.
