'Jadeja Batting, I Better Shut Up': Manjrekar's Cheeky Remark during IND vs BAN Warm-up Sets Social Ablaze
The incident took place when Sanjay Manjrekar was calling the India vs Bangladesh T20 World Cup warm-up game with Ravindra Jadeja in the middle.

The duel between Ravindra Jadeja and former batter Sanjay Manjrekar from the ICC World Cup 2019 is still fresh in the minds of the cricket fans. Five years ago when the Men in Blue were fighting for a third ODI World Cup title in the United Kingdom, Manjrekar called Jadeja a ‘bits and pieces player’ which drew a harsh reply from the all-rounder via social media. Though the duo has moved on, the netizens have been keeping track of their sweet and sour relationship.

A recent incident caught the fans’ attention which involved both individuals in different roles. Majrekar was calling the India vs Bangladesh T20 World Cup warm-up game with Jadeja in the middle. During the 17th over of India’s innings, the southpaw looked to slog a Tanvir Islam delivery across the line but missed. Wicketkeeper Liton Das whipped out the bails while Bangladesh broke into a loud appeal which was referred to the TV umpire.

Jadeja’s back leg appeared to be behind the line but the all-rounder had the benefit of the doubt. On the other hand, the commentators reckoned it was out but Manjrekar’s cheeky dig at the TV replay made the fans a little nostalgic.

“He did not get his toes behind the line and only the toes, as you can see, are in contact with the ground. Now it’s Jadeja batting so I better shut up,” he said as the other two commentators burst into laughter.

The duel of 2019

During the ODI World Cup 2019, Jadeja strongly reacted to Manjrekar’s ‘bits and pieces’ remark with a post which read, “I’ve played twice the number of matches you have and I’m still going strong. It’s time to respect those who have achieved. I’ve had my fill of your verbal diarrhoea.”

Later in the tournament, Jadeja starred with a 77-run knock against New Zealand in the semi-final but failed to take India through to the final. His efforts with the bat and 116-run partnership with MS Dhoni were widely praised and Manjrekar too was one of the admirers.

“I have to apologise to him (Ravindra Jadeja), he was looking for me but I wasn’t there. I was in the lounge taking my lunch, I’m sorry,” Manjrekar said in the post-match discussion.
