BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has reportedly claimed that the IPL 2024 'won't be moved overseas'.

Amidst the reports suggesting that the Indian Premier League (IPL) would be shifted to the United Arab Emirates due to the General Elections 2024, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have provided some clarity.

A report published by Cricbuzz has stated that the tournament will not be moved overseas. BCCI secretary was quoted in the report saying, “No, it won’t be moved overseas”.

Earlier, reports had surfaced that the BCCI officials could ‘explore the possibility’ of conducting the second half of the tournament in Dubai. But Mr Shah’s statement has put an end to the talks of the tournament heading out of India.

The last time the IPL was held in the UAE was in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid outbreak. The games were played across three venues – Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah..

There were rumours before the start of the event that the 2024 edition of the IPL could be shifted out of India because of the general elections. But the BCCI went on to announce the schedule of the first phase which includes the first 21 games.

IPL 2024 is set to kick off with a blockbuster clash between two iconic franchises. The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings will take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

A press release on CSK’s official website, also announced that the tickets for the season opener would begin on March 18.

CSK will look to begin their campaign with a win as the rumours continue to flow regarding the 2024 season being the last dance of the legendary skipper, MS Dhoni. Cricket fans will be eager to see the wicketkeeper-batter close out his IPL career on a high with yet another title win.

With the upcoming General Elections, it remains to be seen how the rest of the IPL season will pan out. It is still unclear whether there will be a break in the tournament or whether the BCCI will continue with the tournament during the voting periods.
