Orange Cap IPL 2024 Update: Virat Kohli Back on Top; Check Updated List after RCB vs LSG Match
Virat Kohli becomes the first batter to breach the 200-run mark in IPL 2024.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Tuesday suffered a second consecutive defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. It was their third overall in four games which has put them in the 9th position of the points table. It was yet another encounter that exposed their fragile bowling attack. On the contrary, the only highlight of RCB has been Virat Kohli who continues to showcase his prowess with the bat.

Lucknow Notch 28-Run Win

Similar to his previous two outings, Kohli got the desired start as RCB chased 182 at Chinnaswamy Stadium. He fired 22 off 16 deliveries, with the help of 2 boundaries and one six, before becoming the maiden victim of left-arm spinner M Siddharth. Only Rajat Patidar (29) and Mahipal Lomror (33) could score more than Kohli as RCB were bundled out for 153 in the chase with 2 balls to spare.

Kohli’s 22 took his run tally beyond the 200 mark, winning the Orange Cap again. On Monday, he had lost it to Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag whose second consecutive fifty drove his team to a third straight win in the ongoing season. A day later, Kohli took it back with a total of 203 runs, at an average of 67 and a strike rate of close to 141.

Parag is now second on the run-scorers tally with 181 runs. SRH wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klassen is standing third with 167 runs in three games.

Meanwhile, Lucknow batters Nicholas Pooran and Quinton de Kock jumped into the top 5 run-getters of the season following their blazing knocks against RCB. The former Windies captain scored an unbeaten 40 off 21 balls while the South African wicketkeeper-batter was the top run-getter in the fixture with a 56-ball 81.

While Pooran now sits 4th with 146 runs in 3 matches at a staggering average of 146, De Kock grabbed the 5th spot with 139 runs at a strike rate of 140.

Points Table Update

Purple Cap Update

Following LSG’s win, their pace-sensation, Mayank Yadav has jumped to second in the wicket-taking charts after producing match-winning performances in the two games he played. He now has six wickets in two games which puts him just behind the leader, Chennai Super Kings’ Mustafizur Rahman who leads with a tally of 7 wickets in the three games he has played.

The 28-run win took LSG from the 6th to the 4th spot on the points table with 4 points and a Net Run Rate of +0.483. The Royals are on the top of the tally with 6 points. The likes of KKR, CSK, LSG and GT follow next, respectively, with 4 points each but differentiated based on the NRR.
