The meeting between BCCI and IPL owners that was held in Mumbai to discuss the nitty-gritty of the upcoming auction, and the season ended on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the house was divided on the issue of Player Retentions and KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan and Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia were in opposite camps. While Khan was pushing for more retentions, Wadia was against the idea and wanted the regular mega auction to continue.

It’s reliably learnt that the two co-owners had a heated debate on the issue during the discussion between owners of Indian Premier League franchises and the Board of Control for Cricket in India top brass in Mumbai on Wednesday. While leaving the building, Wadia spoke to the reporters but categorically rubbished any argument with SRK during the meeting which lasted well over two hours.
“Not true. We are all in it together. Just like you guys. After you finish this, you will go for a quick bite. So not true at all,” Wadia told reporters.
Both KKR and PBKS had to be in opposite camps because the two had contrasting outings in the last season. While KKR won the title and wore a very settled look, PBKS didn’t get their combinations right on most occasions and ended at the ninth position with just 5 wins from 14 games. Quite understandably, co-owners of the two teams had different views.
All franchises had their owners in attendance and Mumbai Indians joined the meeting virtually during which the mega auction remained the biggest talking point.
The auction purse was also touted as one of the most crucial agendas of the meeting, and as it stands, currently at Rs 100 crore for every team, there is a huge possibility of it getting a raise which could result in a change in strategies – of both players and franchise owners.
