Wasim Akram said that he feels MS Dhoni will be 'done after this'.

Has MS Dhoni already played his final Indian Premier League (IPL) game? Well, speculations have been rife over the legendary skipper retiring from the domestic T20 tournament. Dhoni was last seen in action in an IPL 2024 league stage fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday last week. The outing, however, did not turn out to be a fruitful one for Mahi as his side Chennai Super Kings conceded a defeat and suffered a subsequent elimination from IPL 2024. Legendary Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram recently talked about news of Dhoni’s possible IPL retirement doing the rounds. During an interaction with Sportskeeda, Akram said that he feels Dhoni will be “done after this.” Akram, at the same time, did not forget to point out the World Cup-winning skipper’s incredible legacy in IPL.

With five IPL titles under his belt, MS Dhoni is one of the most successful skippers in the history of the competition. He has led Chennai Super Kings to five IPL triumphs. CSK won their fifth IPL title last year, under the captaincy of Dhoni.

“[On MS Dhoni’s future] I have a gut feeling, he’ll be done after this. Players like him come in a lifetime, it all depends on him. [On Memorable six] His legacy is not just that [110m] six, it’s something else. He’s done a lot for Indian cricket. He brought the mindset. As a captain, he brought calmness, played captaincy knocks, the way he became a finisher, the way he has groomed players, and showed consistency, so this will be his legacy,” Wasim Akram said.

“But, yes, for fans the last image will be that 110-metre six at his age, it’s incredible fitness. It will only be a glimpse of his legacy,” he added.

MS Dhoni currently holds the record for the most IPL appearances (264). Dhoni also became the first player in the history of the competition to feature in 250 matches. The former Chennai Super Kings captain achieved this remarkable feat last year during the IPL final against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. The IPL 2023 final also witnessed Dhoni becoming the first player to take part in 11 summit clashes since the inaugural season in 2008.

MS Dhoni relinquished the leadership duties of Chennai Super Kings ahead of this season’s IPL and Ruturaj Gaikwad was appointed the captain of the franchise. CSK did not have a memorable campaign this time as they failed to qualify for the playoffs. CSK conceded a 27-run defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru to suffer a shocking exit.
