Students of a government high school in Moi Majri village, Sonipat district have been taking their classes sitting outside in the cold weather. Why? The state education department is yet to construct a building, reported the Times of India.
The department has been unable to construct a building in the last two years thus forcing students of classes 5 to 10 to learn their lessons sitting on the floor in corridors of the school. The students have been without a roof over their heads since 2021. As per reports, authorities had razed the school building two years back declaring it unsafe. Since then, the school authorities and students have been waiting for the construction to start. The school, with 300 students, has only three rooms and lacks basic amenities.
The Haryana education department said there has been some progress in the infrastructure work, however, the poor condition of the school says otherwise. The construction work of the schools, which will cost around Rs 4.15 crore, is yet to commence. The local MLA has urged the government to provide another building for the school, however, there has been no response.
Meanwhile, the Haryana government has declared winter vacation across all government and private schools in the state, from January 1 to January 15, 2024. The schools will reopen on January 16. The district education officers, district fundamental officers, and block education officials of every district in the state have received directives from the Haryana Education Department in this regard.
Every year in winter, 15 days of holidays are given by the Haryana government. Last year also, the Haryana Directorate of School Education issued the same notification and declared winter vacation from January 1 to January 15, 2023, in all government and private schools in the state. Schools were reopened in the state on January 16. The students in 10th and 12th grades, however, had to attend classes. The classes were continued given the preparation of board exams for the students in classes 10 and 12.
