The Ministry of Education’s National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) at IIT Madras is officially taking applications for the forthcoming January–April 2024 semester, marking a significant advancement in the field of online education. With over 2.5 crore students, NPTEL has an excellent reputation as a leader in the provision of accessible, accredited online learning at large scale.
NPTEL is committed to extending educational options, and it currently provides 720 courses in engineering, science, humanities, and management. The current semester’s goal is to provide over 30 lakh students with enhanced learning opportunities. Individuals interested in enrolling can do so for free on the SWAYAM and NPTEL platforms until February 19, 2024.
Prospective students can visit SWAYAM at http://swayam.gov.in/ or NPTEL’s official website at http://nptel.ac.in/ to enrol for the January 2024 semester. Although there is no cost to enrol, students may choose to pay a modest price of Rs. 1000 to sit for an optional certification exam.
Prof. Andrew Thangaraj, the NPTEL Coordinator at IIT Madras, emphasised the importance of NPTEL courses by saying that they have made large-scale, certified and inexpensive online education possible. “We hope our expanded course catalogue will empower our learners to upskill themselves and boost their career prospects,” he added.
Applied Statistical Thermodynamics, Computational Genomics, Structural Vibration, Games and Information, Experimental Robotics, and Research Methodology for Planning and Architectural Studies are just a few of the new courses that NPTEL is offering this semester in an effort to build on the success of the previous one.
With NPTEL starting its 20th year of existence and its 10th year of providing certification, this semester is especially important. With 690 courses and more than 6.75 lakh students taking center-based proctored exams in the previous semester, the platform has experienced significant growth.
In addition to drawing students, NPTEL has seen a significant amount of faculty participation. As part of their Faculty Development Programme, more than 66,000 faculty members from different educational institutions in India registered for NPTEL courses in 2023, raising the calibre of instruction at colleges all throughout the nation.
