Last month, a ‘report’ started doing the rounds that Nithya Menen has faced ‘a lot of problems’ in the Tamil film industry and that she was even harassed by a Tamil actor during a film shoot. Refuting the same, film industry tracker Manobala Vijayabalan took to X and stated that the viral quote is ‘baseless’. Soon, Nithya also shared screenshots of the reports and called out a few portals for spreading ‘false news’.
And now, in an exclusive interaction with News18 Showsha, she talks about how she has never felt the need to react to rumours but this particular incident was ‘a bit much’ which nudged her to take to social media and slam them. “How can one say that somebody harassed me? I thought it needed to be called out. I really believe in accountability. When people behave badly, you have to point your finger at them. I want them to face the impact and consequences,” she asserts.
So, how does she deal with speculations and false reports revolving around her? “The idea is to not let anything affect you. You’ve to be very spiritual, otherwise you’ll get very upset. And you can’t get upset over these things. My health is important to me and so, I can’t get upset just because somebody is doing something senselessly,” Nithya tells us.
The Thiruchitrambalam and Mission Mangal actor further continues, “You have to really grow up and mature. People say that you need to develop a thick skin but it’s not like that. It’s about a deeper understanding of how you can detach yourself from such things. There have been so many rumours about me that people almost believe them. Things are written in a way as though they really happened. But this time, I felt the need to [talk about it].”
Recently, Nithya was seen in the Prime Video web series, Kumari Srimathi, that saw her playing an enterprising, ambitious and opinionated woman in her thirties. She has been receiving wide acclaim for the same. She expresses that it’s rather ‘liberating and fun’ to play women who are ‘as real as they can get’. “I can’t do anything else. This is what I do. If I play any character, I’ll bring that sense of freedom into the character because that’s how I live my life and that’s how I am in real life. The thing is it’s very important for me to be real and happy in life,” she says.
Stressing further on how the projects she becomes a part of and the characters she plays need to ‘align’ with her personal sensibilities, she adds, “Films only come second for me. I can’t be in a fake zone just to do a film! In general, it’s very liberating to not take something and make it the centre of your life. The idea is to focus on being happy and the right things.”
