Is Rock On 3 On The Cards? Purab Kohli Spills The Beans: 'I Keep Asking Farhan...' | Exclusive
Actor Purab Kohli, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, opened up on how the failure of Rock On 2 affected him.

Actor Purab Kohli, who is a part of SONY LIV web series 36 Days, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, opened up about his role in the series and discussed the impact of Rock On 2’s failure on him. The actor, known for his roles in Rock On! and Turning 30, as well as international series like Sense8 and the recent Hollywood film The Matrix: Resurrections, said that after Rock On! 2 tanked, he wondered where his career was headed.

“Basically, after Jal, which was a big hit for me professionally, I had high hopes. I invested a lot into it, thinking that if Jal succeeded with me as the main lead, it would change my position in the industry completely. Unfortunately, Jal tanked. I had put so much hope into that project that, for one or two years before it, I didn’t take up any other work. I was trying to clear everything else to focus solely on that film. When it didn’t do well, it hit me. Luckily, around that time, I heard that Rock On 2 was happening, so I thought it would propel me back up. But when the film didn’t do well either, I was back to wondering, ‘Oh my God, now what do I do?’” recalled Purab.

Abhishek Kapoor’s Rock On!, a musical drama, was released in 2008 and was a big hit. Purab played the role of KD in the film. The sequel, released in 2016, failed to make a mark at the box office. Is there a chance of a third installment, we asked Purab. He said, “It’s a great franchise! I keep asking Farhan (Akhtar) if it’ll come back for a third part. But, there are no discussions on that front as of now.”

In 36 Days, Purab Kohli plays the role of Rishi Jaykar. Opening up on it, he said, “The character comes from an academic background. Something happened to him in the past—a scandal that destroyed his career. He lives with the humiliation of it and is trying hard to cope with what has happened. His wife runs a successful business, and much of her respect and relationship with Rishi was based on his former position. Since he lost that position, she has lost respect for him. Rishi is not your standard character, but as the story unfolds, you discover what really happened to him.”
