First it was the rain gods and now a shocker for the BCCI - Indian Super League couldn't have asked for a better script for its opening season, though it comes at the expense of the game India worships. But footy fans don't mind that.
The ISL now stands a chance to see an unprecedented surge in its viewership after disgruntled West Indies cricketers called off their tour of India following a pay dispute with their board.
The West Indies' decision was mailed to BCCI by team manager and former West Indies captain Richie Richardson - sending shock waves into the BCCI office that expressed its surprise over the sudden announcement.
But somewhere in India's footballing hotbeds of Kolkata, northeast and Goa, footy fans will be smiling slyly at the prospect of the 'beautiful game' gaining considerably in what's going to be cricket's loss.
But BCCI was quick to dial Sri Lanka, who have agreed to tour for a five-ODI series from November 1-15. Still though, it gives the ISL a 14-day cricket-free window - something it won't mind a wee bit.
On a concluding note, while it's good to watch football's renaissance, sportspersons (read Indian cricketers) being deprived of competing for no fault of theirs is never a pleasant scenario.
