New Delhi: Disappointment with the Pay Commission recommendations is not the only pointer that Indian soldiers want a better life.
Some seem to have been struck by the American dream as well.
Two soldiers of the Indian Army disappeared during a 10-day counter-terrorist drill codenamed Exercise Shatrujit, in the US earlier this month.
They are suspected to have used the opportunity to stay back illegally in the US.
The missing soldiers - Riflemen Sanjay Mahato and Santosh Thapa - are citizens of Nepal.
They were part of the group of 119 soldiers from the Gurkha Regimen, which exercised with a US Marines company at Camp Pendleton in California.
The Los Angeles police are on their tail. An embarrassed Indian Army have declared them AWOL, which is military terminology for being absent without leave, and even ordered a court of inquiry into the disappearance.
Nearly 9,000 Indian troops have been deployed overseas on UN peacekeeping mission.
And foreign exercises too are now a regular feature. But this is the first time that Indian soldiers have used a foreign tour for illegal migration.
