New Delhi: Low? Depressed? Is the cold getting you down or is it your finances that always seem to be sliding downhill, however frugally you spend?
You might have had a fight with your better half or is that bad habit that you are not being able to kick away?
If things are getting you down and you are feeling miserable, don't blame yourself. It's not your fault - it's the day, says Dr Cliff Arnall of Cardiff University.
The health psychologist - who specialises in seasonal disorders - is famous for coming up with formulae that can depict human moods on certain dates.
This year, the D-Day was January 22, aptly dubbed Blue Monday. His calculation is based on the poorest weather, debts owed for seasonal spending and the period of time before you abandon your New Year resolutions.
The equation is broken down into seven variables: (W) weather, (D) debt, (d) monthly salary, (T) time since Christmas, (Q) time since failed quit attempt, (M) low motivational levels and (NA) the need to take action.
The formula used to come up with the most miserable day of the year is:
[W+(D-d)] x TQ over M x NA
Critics say, this formula is too simple and warn against over-emphasising for fear of over-simplifying real life experiences.
They concede that those who were influenced by external elements could apply the formula to a certain extent, but those who suffered from personal tragedies might not be eligible to be included.
