21 bus bays for city soon

BHUBANESWAR: Eager hands trying to flag down passing buses with no designated stops will soon be a thing of the past. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already started work on 21 bus bays across the City.The bus bays have been a long-standing demand and were delayed for lack of land. Now, with land allotted by the General Administration (GA) Department, the project has started rolling. This would ensure better management of City bus services with proper arrival timings. The locations identified for bus bays are Master Canteen (in front of Jajati Hotel), Ram Mandir-Big Bazaar, Rajmahal Square (in front of Khadi Niketan), Delta Colony (100 metre after Delta Square), Palaspalli, Forest Park (near Sishu Bhawan), near Chandrashekharpur East Coast Railway office, Jaydev Vihar, CRP Square and AG Chhak, among others. The BMC has started laying the foundation for the bus bays at many places. It is during the third phase of the construction, the super structure of the bus bay will be put in place. The project will be taken up in PPP mode.  A few of the existing bus bays like the one near the Kalinga Hospital will also be renovated. Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena is hopeful of early completion of the work.
