HYDERABAD: Confirming the submission of fake verification certificates by 22 Tatkal applicants, regional passport officer K Srikar Reddy on Friday said the passports had been revoked in each case and police complaints filed. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he pointed out that applicants should get verification certificates directly from officers like rural development officer or deputy superintendent of police and above and not through agents.The names of officers whose signatures were forged are Kamal Kumar B Pargi, commissioner, Shore Areas Development Authority and Army officers Major SK Mohanty and Lt Col H Shekhar.Srikar Reddy advised the officers not to issue verification certificates without conducting due diligence.With many passport applicants complaining that they were unable to book online slot to submit applications, the Hyderabad Regional Passport Office has decided to do away with the concept of recognised agents.“The move is to ensure transparency in booking of online appointment slots,” K Srikar Reddy said and advised applicants who were not getting online appointment slots to visit the RPO after filling the application online with valid Application Reference Number.Referring to complaints that agents were blocking away many online appointment slots after their release daily and collecting amounts from applicants, Srikar said they had now decided to remove the concept of agents. He said that 3,000 appointment slots are released daily in Hyderabad.He further explained that applicants can seek appointment by e-mail at [email protected] explaining the urgency for a passport and submit proof for the same and get appointment date through mail.Srikar Reddy also said that applicants who need police clearance certificates do not require an appointment from February 21 as they can register online.
