New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to file its final report on the 2G spectrum scam in the Supreme Court on Thursday. The investigating agency has arrested former telecom minister A Raja along with his personal secretary RK Chandolia and former telecom secretary Siddharth Behuria but has not been able to establish the money trail.
CBI officials claim that Raja has not divulged any details about the alleged multi-crore scam allegedly got from some telecom companies for showing undue favour and granting 2G licences.
The CBI had, earlier, sought an extension of time from the apex court for completing the investigation on the ground that it will take time to be completed since it is to be conducted in some foreign countries also to ascertain the money trail.
A bench comprising Justices GS Singhvi and AK Ganguly had granted time till March 2011 to file the final report of the investigation.
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has indicted Raja and other Department of Telecommunications officials for causing a loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the exchequer.
Meanwhile, Shahid Usman Balwa, DB Realty Managing Director and the fourt person arrested in the 2G scam, will be presented in a special CBI court in New Delhi on Thursday.
Balwa is suspected of investing in various front companies on behalf of Raja. DB Realty and Etisalat had taken over Swan Telecom, one of the companies that benefited during Raja's tenure in the 2G spectrum allocation.
Balwa is also accused of conspiring with private companies to sell to a Gulf firm at a huge profit the 2G spectrum licences Swan Telecom acquired at a cheap rate.
